The Callous Daoboys Are Leveling Up with Their New Single “Waco Jesus”

0

God damn it, man. Every time The Callous Daoboys put something new out, it’s fucking killer and I almost can’t stand it. The six-piece from Atlanta have a style that’s hard to pin down, oscillating from madcap insanity to borderline sexy melodies to irreverently screaming “fuck you” to conventions, this band is one you should abso-fucking-lutely be following.

Today, they not only announced their new three-song EP God Smiles Upon The Callous Daoboys, but they released the first single off the upcoming release in the form of “Waco Jesus.” Described as “one of the band’s boldest tracks to date,” the track has something for everyone. Want heavy, face-churning riffs? You got it. Do you need an anthemic chorus to sing along to? Done. Are you one of those people that want a melodic, almost Dog Fashion Disco-esque verse? You’re in luck — it’s here too!

To say this shit is right in my wheelhouse would be an understatement and I really think it’ll stick with you too. Speaking to the song’s themes, vocalist Carson Pace says it comes from a place of internal vulnerability.

“’Waco Jesus’ is about insecurity, projecting that insecurity and not doing anything to solve it regardless of how people are telling you to NOT be insecure. It’s about being unable to take a compliment.”

As for the direction the band’s taking with this EP and their immediate future moving forward, Pace said he and his bandmates want to be something memorable and unique within the metal sphere.

“In a way it feels like the band just started, even though we’ve been chipping away at it for the last six years. We want to be the defining band of this weirdo genre-swapping heavy music, where you can’t put it under an umbrella. I think what’s cool about it is it’s just immediately like, ‘Hey, fuck you, this is The Callous Daoboys!’”

God Smiles Upon The Callous Daoboys will be released on October 20 via MNRK Heavy / Modern Static Records, but you can preorder your copy today in a variety of formats, including 12″ 45RPM vinyl, though that’s limited to 1000 copies across three variants.
