Slipknot Parts Ways with Drummer Jay Weinberg

Looks like yet another member of Slipknot has been ousted from the group, as drummer Jay Weinberg is no longer part of the band. The news came about an hour ago after the following statement about the lineup change was posted to Slipknot’s official social media accounts.

“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision, and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”

As a result of this announcement, it means that Weinberg’s final show with the band occurred this past Friday at the Hell & Heaven festival down in Mexico. The announcement ends a roughly 10 year tenure with the band, after Weinberg was tapped as the band’s replacement for Joey Jordison.

It feels like we all know the story by now, but Weinberg was a huge fan of Slipknot growing up. As the son of Max Weinberg, who himself plays drums for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and had been the band leader for Conan O’Brien’s late night talk show run, Max had famously gotten to meet his idols at a young age, resulting in a pretty well known image.

According to a statement posted about an hour ago to Slipknot’s social media accounts, the move was made in part because the band is “intent on evolving.” It does seem how it’s worded that this wasn’t Weinberg’s decision, but rather a move made by the band to move on from the drummer.

This now marks the second time this year that a member has been ousted from the group. Back in June, long-time keyboardist Craig Jones was removed from the band just hours before they were supposed to kick off their European tour this past summer. In that case, Jones had been a member since 1996.
