Kerry King’s Latest Single “Residue” is a Firey First Look at the Band in Action

In life, certain combinations just make sense: milk and honey, peanut butter and jelly, and Slayer guitarist Kerry King and fire. That last one in particular is especially noteworthy today because it’s pretty much the entire premise behind the music video for “Residue”, the latest single from King’s solo effort.

King said the video’s firey nature was a simple concept, given his background with Slayer.

“I come from a big fire pedigree and my music works with fire. I’ve always written horror-type music, so it made sense to incorporate fire into the first video, where you get to see the entire band, which I think is just awesome. I think fire goes hand-in-hand with the devil, and I’m no stranger to talking about the devil.”

After watching the likes of Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph, Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda, ex-Hellyeah bassist Kyle Sanders, former Vio-lence guitarist Phil Demmel, and the heavily tattooed Slayer guitarist himself throw down in the clip below, it’s pretty obvious that the band has the star power to have a commanding presence when they play.

Co-directed by Jim Louvau and his partner Tony Aguilera, the video is the first official look at the men filling out King’s solo project. As such, Louvau said he and Aguilera wanted to put a video together that reflected the song’s bombastic energy.

“I knew this would be the first time that the world was going to see the band performing together, so I wanted to create a fast-moving visual assault. Pyrotechnics and Kerry King clearly go hand in hand and seem to fit like a glove, so Tony and I wanted to create something that felt familiar but also something new and exciting. I also knew I could get away with certain visuals like a burning pentagram.”

As for the song itself, it’s damn good. While the main riff goes hard at times as it drives the track together, the two stand outs for me were Osegueda’s vocals and Demmel’s solo. Those two guys really brought it on this one.

From Hell I Rise will be released on May 17, but you can pre-order your copy today.
