Cloud Rat, Earth Tour
I got turned onto Cloud Rat‘s Moksha after Pig Destroyer/Agoraphobic Nosebleed guitarist Scott Hull included it on his year-end list last December (the name, in case you’re curious, is Sanskrit for “liberation”). Given the endorsement, I wasn’t exactly shocked to learn that the Michigan grind trio absolutely rips… and then, earlier this year, they released Blind River, a collection of their contributions from various split releases, and I actually think that may be better than Moksha. Cloud Rat songs are abrupt, crud-crested, furious bursts of aural violence — in other words, they’re an exemplary grindcore band. Alas, I haven’t had a chance to check ’em out live yet…
…but that will change in September, when the band hits the road for the “Mosh to Moksha” Tour!!! No one is actually calling the trek by name save for me, but I think it’ll catch on eventually. And even if it doesn’t, I’m still banking on these shows being gross, sweaty, and life-shortening — in other words, exemplary grindcore shows.
