The Album We Didn’t Think Would Be So Highly Anticipated award of Q1 2021 undeniably goes to Smith/Kotzen. Every time we write about the eponymous debut album by the new collaboration between guitarists Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) and Richie Kotzen (Winery Dogs, ex-Poison, ex-Mr. Big), traffic spikes. I guess people are SUPER curious as to what it sounds like when the dudes who wrote “Flight of Icarus” and “7 Days Over You” team up.

The duo have now released “Running,” which is the third single from the record, after “Taking My Chances” and “Scars.” Like its predecessors, it’s a catchy, if somewhat generic, hard rock song with a big hook and ample guitar pyrotechnics. I think at this point you probably know if you’re on board with these dudes or not; if you’re wishing that they’d turn around and release a “Wasted Years,” well, y’know… shit in one hand, wish in the other, blah blah blah.

P.S. I still think Kotzen now sounds remarkably like Chris Cornell.

You can check out “Running” via the below video. Smith/Kotzen comes out on March 26; pre-order here.
