SLIPKNOT ANNOUNCE DONNIE STEELE AS BASSIST FOR UPCOMING SHOWS

Thursday, March 10th, 2011 at 5:28pm by

At long last, Slipknot have announced who will be taking the late Paul Gray’s spot as their new bass player… at least for the time being. And it’s someone hardcore Slipknot fans already know! Here’s the statement from the band’s official website:

For their upcoming shows in 2011, Slipknot has asked Donnie Steele to fill in for Paul Gray on bass. Donnie, as some may recall, was the original guitar player in Slipknot and had actually reconnected with Paul in recent years. Said the band on their decision, “Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family. Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul’s legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer.”

So there ya have it. Whether or not Donnie ends up back in Slipknot on a full-time basis remains to be seen, but for now…

i’m not sure “filling in” is the best way of putting it. it’s not like paul is coming back

i agree with you fully i have been a maggot since 99 i dont think they should bring anybody back because they them self’s have say’d once one of them dies slipknot dies with them i think they should be done or at least change the name

FYI, calling yourself that doesn’t make you cool. It does, however, make you sound like an idiot trapped in your sophomore year of high school.

Agreed on the maggot thing. I have no shame in claiming I’m a fan of Slipknot and have been ever since I was handed a pre-production demo tape after a Hatebreed show in 1998. But even back then at the ripe age of 17 I thought the whole “our fans are maggots!” nonsense was fucking retarded.

Can’t believe so many people willingly (and proudly might I add) refer to themselves as such.

        • Isaac

As a sophomore in high school, I am offended. I called myself that in seventh grade, personally.

Oh, he was only in it for a year. It’s good that they got someone within the Slipknot family to play. That would be cool if they make him permanent… But that’s all depending on if Corey wants to continue.

Donnie is an amazing guitarist and bassist. I really hope they take him back in.

For those don’t know, Donnie helped write MFKR, which is, in my opinion, Slipknot’s best work. I really hope they let him wrote some new stuff with them

I have no clue who Donnie Steele is but MIRIN THAT NAME, sounds fuckin alpha

    • Aether Jake

Steele is an alpha last name. A better first name would be liek “John” or something

    • matty2fatty

I went to school with a Donnie Steele. I think I remember him getting caught jerking off at an elementary school or something. Alpha as FUCK

Wondering how they’re gonna handle the mask/number thing for him.

    • Spanky

On the cover of their first roadrunner release Jim is wearing his mask…so he might wear it again

      • Anthony

That was Josh Brainard Jim was filling in for. Not Donnie.

I’m not really a huge slipknot fan anymore, but this is cool news

  • Tim

Good news to hear rather than bringing in some tool from another shitty band like some others have done…

  • Joe

Im a huge slipknot fan and have been since day one. I think this is a good move. The guys only have one more album and tour left on their contract and I think theyll be done. This upcoming album will be the last and hopefully it comes with the same hate and aggression iowa had. Miss u more and more everyday paul. Rip.

Man Slipknot is the main reason I started listening to metal. All I can say is, Fuckin A!

its to bad Corey Taylor wasnt the one who died…. Slipknot has sucked since IOWAs release… They are the biggest sell outs this side of the corn fields….. Corey and SLIPKNOT was so into ANTI everything but once he took the mask off he will do anything for spotlight… he puts a mask on talks shit about everybody I remember him taking time on stage to publicy bash KORN years back….but takes the mask off and can perform with them on stage??? Hes just lik ethe E-fighters that hide behind computer screens, except he does it behind a mask…. FUCK SLIPKNOT… I wish they wouldnt have to come out with another Stone Sour sounding piece of shit album

    • ryan

Corey was talkin shit about dave silveria korns old drummer being a model for calvin cline…..get ur facts straight…..glad to hear they got a bassist but they should continue as 8…my opinion

Fuck yes! Anyone that’s heard “Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.” knows that Donnie is an awesome guitarist. I hope his role in the band becomes permanent; I can’t think of a better replacement for Paul.

  • Jacob

    Sick.

Donnie is an awesome guitarist. MFKR is my favourite Slipknot album.

All they have to do now is bring Anders back. :)

    R.I.P. Paul.

  • Eric

I dont care what most of the haters might say. The pure fact that they are even continuing on says a lot about the band as a whole, and obviously this is what Paul would have wanted. So just shut the fuck up and enjoy the little time we have left with a band that made such a huge impact on the music industry. And also all the Corey haters, lets not forget Stone Sour was and is his orginal band. So mask or not I think it would be the same today as it has turned out to be. See you soon maggots.

i have been a fan of slipknot since Mate Feed Kill Repeat through the years i have watched them grow as a band from no radio play to psychosocial then suddenly everyone became a fan be for those who are ill informed this is awesome news to bring back a founder of the original band and in honor of Paul Grey (R.I.P) but without those who started slipknot we wouldn’t have come to know the badasses we all know and love so hell yeah donnie steele lets do for the band and for paul grey WELCOME BACK!!!!!!

  • Oli Taki

Firstly, lets get something straight, Corey Taylor is the best thing that has happend to Slipknot besides headling Download. (They wouldnt even be there if Anders was still singing) I personally think bringing Donnie back is a great idea, who could be better than an original member of the band and Paul’s close friend (R.I.P), anyway what i’m saying is that its amazing they are even continuing as a band and i’ll be supporting them no matter what.
