As reported yesterday, Tim Lambesis was granted a new bail hearing earlier this afternoon. His bail has subsequently been lowered from $3 million to $2 million. That’s still a far cry from the $250,000 requested by defense attorney Thomas Warwick. (What happened to previously-announced lawyer Anthony Salerno? No idea.).

According to Warwick, Lambesis has been taking steroids — not exactly a shocking admission, given the vocalist’s recent appearance. (Meggan Lambesis cited Tim’s new obsession with body building as one of the causes for divorcing him.) Warwick asserted that Lambesis’ “thought processes were devastatingly affected by his steroid use.”

So… two things:

  1. Is this what Lambesis’ defense is going to come down to — he did it, but it’s not his fault because he was on steroids and it was entrapment? That is certainly not the reassuring proof of innocence most of us were hoping for. It basically amounts to the infamous “Twinkie Defense” used to defend Dan White for the murder of Harvey Milk.
  2. Is lowering the bail to $2 mil going to be enough to get Lambesis out? I mean, I’m sure every penny helps, but that’s still a LOT of money.

More news as it develops.
