$100K GoFundMe Campaign Launched For Bad Brains’ Dr. Know

0

In November, we reported that Bad Brains guitarist Gary “Dr. Know” Miller was put on life support for cardiac arrest. And though his condition steadily improved, Miller spent over three months in the hospital. Now, friends and family of Miller have launched a $100k GoFundMe campaign to help pay for the guitarist’s medical expenses and continued care he’ll need at home. You can give to it here.

A full statement is available on the GoFundMe page, but here’s an excerpt:

We started this campaign in an effort to raise money for Doc’s medical expenses and additional care that will be needed once he returns home. Doc did not have medical insurance at the time of his hospitalization, and the multiple medical bills have created an overwhelming financial strain that Doc and his family are not able to handle on their own. Since Doc has been unable to work since early November when this happened, he also needs help with his living expenses until he can make a full recovery and get back to work.

All funds contributed to this campaign will be directly deposited into a bank account created by a representative of the Bad Brains specifically for this purpose. Any amount of money you can contribute to this fund is greatly appreciated by Doc and his family.

Miller’s story is an incredibly common one. In order to do what they love, most musicians can’t also hold down a job that gives them full health insurance, and don’t have the money to pay for it themselves (man, COBRA is fucking expensive).

I know $100k sounds like a lot, but the campaign has already raised over $12,000 in support. Please give what you can to help Miller in his speedy recovery.
