Stream The Faceless’s New Album In Becoming a Ghost in Full Right Now!
Along with today’s excellent slate of new metal album releases — Morbid Angel, Intervals, Glassjaw and more — comes In Becoming a Ghost, the long-awaited new album by The Faceless and their first in over five years.
Strangely, given the very long wait and constant drama surrounding this band, this one seems to have arrived with relatively little hype. The band only released two singles (and no videos) in advance of its release, and the only touring around it an 11-date trek covering some of America’s West that received press for the wrong reasons. An eight day U.K. tour will follow in February, but that’s hardly the extent of the kind of promo you’d expect to see surrounding one of metal’s most anticipated releases.
In any case, all that’s secondary: how does the fucking music sound? I’m on my first listen right now, and so far so good! I really liked album-opener “Digging the Grave,” which the band previously released as a single, and I’m on “Black Star” right now and it’s also real solid. I’m getting more of an overall Authotheism vibe from this record on the whole, so those of you who only like the band’s older stuff may be disappointed… but fuck that, Autotheism was fucking magic, and so far I’m digging this one a lot, too. Withholding final judgment until I get through the full album a few times, though, of course.
