DECAPITATED IS BACK, MOFOS! BUT IS KRIMH IN, OR IS HE OUT?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 at 12:30pm by Vince Neilstein

According to a press release just picked up on the newswire by the MS Mansion Monkeys, Polish death metallers Decapitated — who were decimated by a car wreck in 2007 that killed one member and left another in a coma — are on their way back. Wacek “Vogg” Kieltyka, guitarist & founding member, has issued the following statement:

“It’s time to come back!  After a two-year break, DECAPITATED is coming back with new members.  The official new line-up for DECAPITATED will be announced at the end of December.

“As you all know, the decision to continue the band was really, really hard for me, but everything I do now is to keep DECAPITATED alive. [Vocalist] Covan’s situation has not improved much and he is still in bed and unable to function on his own.  He still fights to recover as we speak and we are all still 100% behind him and hope for the best.  It has been the hardest thing for me to move on without [brother & drummer] Vitek by my side, but he would have wanted me to continue with the band.”

It strikes me as odd that Vogg isn’t revealing the identities of the new members, seeing as everyone seems to know that Kerim “Krimh” Lechner — whose impressive solo work I posted earlier this week — is the new drummer. Even the band’s Wikipedia page (not that Wikipedia is always the bastion of truth… but still) claims that Krimh was announced as an official member on July 31st of this year, and you all immediately called it in the comments of the above-linked Krimh post. Perhaps Krimh has been dismissed? I guess we’ll have to wait until December to find out. In the meantime, check out the above video of Krimh’s latest song “Go In Circles.”

Vogg then goes on to reveal the band’s upcoming touring plans:

A GROYSE METSIE FROM EARACHE RECORDS

Thursday, October 8th, 2009 at 2:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

itunesrocktober2009

First of all, for our non-Chosen readers: groyse metsie is Yiddish for a bargain. Don’t say I never taught ya nuthin’.

So. For the month of October (or “Rocktober,” as some clever marketing types are dubbing it), Earache is offering a whole bunch of truly righteous albums from their catalog for download on iTunes at a retardedly low price: $5.99 in the U.S., £4.49 in the U.K., and 4,99EUR in Europe. (The press release tells me that “prices may vary in other regions.” Ha-ha.) Now, I know that most of us music snobs don’t like iTunes because the audio quality isn’t as high as it could be, and there’s a better-than-average chance that a lot of you own most of these albums anyway. But if you can get past the whole “IT’S NOT AS GOOD AS FLAC! Snort snort” thing and/or for some reason DO NOT already own most of these albums, it’s a really, really killer deal.

A complete list of available albums after the jump. At least six or seven of these are classics, and nine or so are still awesome and could be classics, so they’re totally worth the six bucks or whatever.

And then one of them is by Oceano.

NEW DECAPITATED DRUMMER HAS SOME BIG SHOES TO FILL

Friday, July 31st, 2009 at 12:30pm by Axl Rosenberg

Per a posting on their MySpace blog, Decapitated have named Kerim “Krimh” Lechner from Thorns of Ivy as their new drummer.

As you probably recall, the band’s previous drummer, Witold “Vitek” Kieltyka was killed in a tragic car collision back in 2007. He was only 23 years old. Vocalist Adrian “Covan” Kowanek also sustained serious injuries in the accident – injuries which, as far I know, he still has not fully recovered.

Shortly after the accident, the band announced plans to soldier on and signed with Nuclear Blast. Then, earlier this, guitarist Waclaw “Vogg” Kieltyka announced that he was soldiering on with the Decapitated name, even if it meant hiring a new vocalist. At the time I questioned the logic of such a move, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t at least curious to hear a new Decapitated album.

Here’s some footage of Krimh playing. The dude certainly has chops, even if it is going to be hard to shake the memory of Vitek, whose drumming was a huge part of Decapitated’s sound.

NEW MUSIC FROM THE BINARY CODE DESTROYS EVERYTHING IN ITS PATH

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 at 3:32pm by Vince Neilstein

thebinarycodeheaderNew Jersey progressive death metallers The Binary Code have released a new song, “Suspension of Disbelief,” and I could not be more in awe (as if I wasn’t already). The new song, which comes from the band’s debut full-length to be released later this year, is the band’s most progressive, intricate, brutal and genre-challenging work to date. If the following bands mean anything to you, you owe it yourself to check out the new song: Gojira, Between the Buried and Me, Textures, Decapitated.

Once you’re through having your mind blown by the new song, you’ll need to see this band live; the young gents who comprise The Binary Code are some of the most next-level players I’ve seen anywhere, and will absolutely rip your fucking face off as your jaw drops to the floor in disbelief. The band has some upcoming dates around the Northeast with Tiger Flowers, culminating in a May 15th show at Brooklyn’s Trash Bar with recent Roadrunner-signees Mutiny Within and MetalSucks-faves Hung. Full dates are on their MySpace page. Get ready!

DECAPITATED WILL CONTINUE – BUT IS THAT A GOOD THING?

Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 9:56am by Axl Rosenberg

It’s hard to believe it’s been over a year since the tragic car accident that killed 23 year old Decapitated drummer Vitek and injured vocalist Covan so badly injured that he’s still recovering; the announcement a mere week after the accident that the band was signing with Nuclear Blast was cause for optimism that once Covan had fully recovered the band would continue, but here we are after all there this time and there hasn’t been any real news.

Well, apparently the band’s sole remaining member, Waclaw “Vogg” Kieltyka, is going to continue with Decapitated come hell or high water. Lambgoat reports that he’s looking for new members to rebuild Decapitated:

SOME BITTERSWEET NEWS FOR DECAPITATED FANS

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007 at 3:05pm by Axl Rosenberg

So apparently Decapitated have signed with Nuclear Blast Records. Since Nuclear Blast is one of the foremost metal labels in the world, this is technically good news; of course, as the press release that announced the signing notes, “The joy over these awesome news are of course overshadowed by the tragic death of Decapitated drummer Witold ‘Vitek’ Kieltyka.”

Still, the fact that everyone decided to move forward with this announcement presumably means that the band intends to soldier on without Vitek, and, more importantly, that lead singer Covan is expected to make a full recovery from his own injuries.

So the next logicial step, once Covan is one hundred percent, is to find a new drummer. To whomever that man or woman turns out to be, I’d just like to say: be careful, friend. You’ve got some mighty huge shoes to fill.

DECAPITATED RAISING FUNDS FOR VITEK AND COVAN’S FAMILIES

Friday, November 9th, 2007 at 11:09am by Axl Rosenberg

Decapitated are now accepting donations for the families of recently deceased drummer Vitek, as well as still-recovering vocalist Covan, via PayPal, wire transfer, and good old fashioned snail mail. Further details are avail on the band’s MySpace page.

R.I.P. WITOLD “VITEK” KIELTYKA

Friday, November 2nd, 2007 at 10:00am by Axl Rosenberg

Decapitated’s drummer has passed away from injuries sustained in the band’s recent car collision. He was all of 23 years old.

This is a major loss. Vitek was an incredible drummer and a huge part of Decapitated’s sound. I don’t know if the band can go on without him or if they even plan to try – I’m sure at this point it’s not even an issue. Vocalist Adrian “Covan” Kowanek remains in the hospital.

In memoriam of Vitek, here’s the video for one of my favorite Decapitated tunes, “Spheres of Madness.” If you like extreme music and you don’t know about this band… you’re really missing out.

SENDING GOOD THOUGHTS TO DECAPITATED

Thursday, November 1st, 2007 at 10:19am by Axl Rosenberg

I was sick Tuesday so I totally missed the news that Polish death metal juggernaut Decapitated were in a very serious car accident. Vocalist Covan and drummer Vitek both apparently suffered serious head injuries; an update released this morning says that “Covan is showing some progress, but unfortunately, there has been no signs of improvement in Vitek’s condition.”

No jokes to be made here. This band is incredible and we have nothing but love and respect for them. Here’s hoping they all come through this okay real soon.
