So were pretty stoked about Hypocrisy’s upcoming U.S. tour with Children of Bodom’s Alexi Laiho playin the leed gee-tar, but then it looked like U.S. immigration might derail the whole thing. And now they have.

A very brief statement from the band reads:

IN WHICH WE BOUGHT A PENIS

Friday, November 6th, 2009 at 5:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

Holy shit. I wasn’t even out that late last night, but for some reason I am just so tired today that it feels like nothing is really happening. Am I really typing this? Did I really write something positive about Zakk Wylde? Can I please just go to sleep now? I’m just gonna go to sleep now.

Before I do, here’s some things that happened this week:

Alright, seriously, night-night time for Axl. I think Gary Suarez is going to the NYC Vader gig tomorrow; if anyone sees him there, give him a dead arm for me.

METAL’S BIGGEST PETERS: HYPOCRISY’S PETER TAGTGREN

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 at 1:30pm by Anso DF

Metal fans, let’s take a collective moment to consider ourselves blessed with some big Peters. Peters who will take you firmly from both sides of the mixing board with confidence and expertise. Sweaty, bulging-veined Peters whose live shows leave willing multitudes spent, sated, slack – and more than a bit bruised. These Peters, thanks to generous endowments of talent, stand fully erect as superstars in real metal. Each of metal’s hugest Peters share a rock hard work ethic, hardly pausing for rest between releases captured on tape and performances in the flesh, after which they simply move on to violate again in another city.

In the premiere installment of MetalSucks’ Metal’s Biggest Peters, I spoke by phone with Peter Tagtgren of Hypocrisy, who recently added a third instant classic to his resume with A Taste of Extreme Divinity (buy it now, DBAA). Tagtgren is a death metal household name and represents the rare quintuple-threat (guitar, vocals, production, songwriting, hair). With his feet up on the mixing board (awesome!) and in good humor, Tagtgren spoke at length about crappy production, freaking out metal fans, and why his bands Hypocrisy and Pain are ‘guinea pigs’ for the benefit of others.

We’re very excited about Hypocrisy upcoming U.S. tour with Children of Bodom’s Alexi Laiho on guitar. In fact, in the next forty-eight hours, we’re planning to run an interview that our own Anso DF recently conducted with Hypocrisy main dude Peter Tägtgren.

So it’s heartbreaking to report that the tour might go down the shitter, as Hypocrisy are just the latest in a long line of bands to run into trouble with U.S. immigration. A statement from the band follows:

HYPOCRISY + ALEXI LAIHO = SWEEEEEEEEEEET

Alexi Laiho, Chidren of Bodompetertalexi

If you read this site regularly you know I’m fascinated with temporary team-ups, like Dave Lombardo playing drums for Metallica or Doc Coyle playing guitar for Lamb of God. I just love these little glimpses into some alternate reality where great bands traded great musicians.

So here’s a good one: according to Metal Underground, Children of Bodom’s Alexi Laiho will be playing guitar with Hypocrisy on their upcoming North American tour.

Says Hypocrisy mastermind Peter Tagtgren:

THE BEST NEW SONG RELEASED YESTERDAY BELONGS TO HYPOCRISY

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 at 1:00pm by Vince Neilstein

hypocrisy - a taste of extreme divinityIt’s called “Hang Him High” and it’s currently streaming on Hypocrisy’s MySpace page. It comes off of Hypocrisy’s forthcoming album A Taste of Extreme Divinity, out November 3rd in the U.S. and October 23rd in Europe, an album I’m now even more excited for than I already was.

Is it me, or do the first :40 or so sound a helluva lot like Cannibal Corpse’s “Evisceration Plague”? Especially that guitar doodly-doodly thing. But no matter, the chorus is all its own and the song kills anyway. Totally digging this.

ENSIFERUM BASSIST SAMI HINKKA: “WE JUST MAKE MUSIC THAT SOUNDS GOOD TO US.”

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009 at 4:30pm by Joseph Strombladder

With a new album, From Afar, in stores now, and a U.S. tour just about a month away, now seemed like a perfect time for a chat with bassist/lyricist Sami Hinka. New MetalSucks correspondent Joseph Strombladder got on the phone with the pagan metaller to discuss the process of writing the band’s music and lyrics, the differences between metal fans in the U.S. and abroad, making music videos, and more. Full transcript after the jump.

DON’T BE A HYPOCRITE; GET EXCITED FOR HYPOCRISY!

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 at 2:30pm by Vince Neilstein

hypocrisy - a taste of extreme divinityAnyone ’round here excited for Hypocrisy’s new album A Taste of Extreme Divinity? Me me me! Music aside, the album’s cover artwork is easily the most corny / awesome thing I’ve seen all year. Reminds me a lot of the cover for In Flames’ Whoracle.

I’ve actually really never gotten into Hypocrisy, not because I have anything at all against them but because they’re just one of those bands for whom no one ever came to me and said,” Dude, YOU, Vince Neilstein, need to listen to Hypocrisy.” Because if someone had done this I surely would’ve listened, and I surely would’ve loved. Everything that I have heard to date from the band, I have liked. So what held me back? I don’t know.

Here they are performing “Roswell 47″ at Summer Breeze this past (sigh) Summer. A Taste of Extreme Divinity drops Oct 23 in Europe and Nov 3 in the U.S.

THE FIRST NEW HYPOCRISY ALBUM IN FOUR YEARS!

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 at 11:30am by Axl Rosenberg

atasteofextremedivinity

Wow. Has it really been four years since Peter Tägtgren got it together to make a Hypocrisy album? I guess the time went quickly because a) as I get older and closer to death time seems to pass faster and b) the dude has done so many side-projects and guest appearances (Bloodbath, that Nuclear Blast All-Stars thing, etc.) that he’s never really been out of the headlines (There was also that Catch 22 semi-re-recording, which, like most re-recordings, was pretty much ill advised.).

In any case, Hypocrisy finally have a new album coming out. It’s called A Taste of Extreme Divinity, and it’ll be released on October 23 on Nuclear Blast.

If nothing else, the cover art is fucking metal.

NUCLEAR BLAST ALL STARS OUT OF THE DARK REVIEW: WILL THE REAL SOILWORK PLEASE STAND UP?

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007 at 4:25pm by Vince Neilstein

Nuclear Blast All Stars - Out of the DarkOctober, 2007 will go down as an interesting month for Gothenburg metal; we’ve effectively seen the release of two Soilwork albums. One, which bears the Soilwork namesake, is the first album written and recorded by the band without ex-guitarist and primary songwriter Peter Wichers. The second is essentially a Peter Wichers solo album released under the Nuclear Blast All Stars moniker — Wichers wrote, produced and played guitar and had a host of other musicians contribute their duties, including an A-list roster of singers, one for each song. Anders Friden (In Flames), Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy), John Bush (Anthrax), and Bjorn “Speed” Strid (Soilwork) all contribute vocals. Out of the Dark ends up being a solid listen, if not so much a proper album as a collection of songs. Nuclear Assault has drawn on their rich history to assemble a disc that’s a much more interesting — at least to these ears — version of the Roadrunner United compilation put out a couple of years back.
