UNSIGNED BANDS: HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE DAVID BRODSKY DIRECT YOUR MUSIC VIDEO… FOR FREE?!?

Friday, July 17th, 2009 at 2:32pm by Axl Rosenberg

Our brostafas at Metal Injection are running what has to be one of the most awesome contests ever: they’re giving one lucky unsigned band the opportunity to have David Brodsky of My Good Eye direct their video, absolutely free of cost. If you’re unfamiliar with Mr. Brodsky’s work, well – he’s one of the best and most prolific metal video directors out there right now, and has made clips for such bands as God Forbid, Pig Destroyer, Goatwhore, Suicide Silence, Hate Eternal, Soilent Green, Arsis, In This Moment, Unearth, Bleeding Through, and about a gajillion other bands I’m forgetting. His video for The Black Dahlia Murder’s “Everything Went Black” was voted the #1 video of 2008 by the viewers of Headbanger’s Ball. Obviously, having the guy do your band’s video would be an incredible (and did I mention free?) chance to have a great promotional tool.

Head over to Metal Injection for details on how to win this incredible contest. And tell ‘em MetalSucks sent ya.

METAL INJECTION REVEAL AXL ROSENBERG & VINCE NEILSTEIN’S FACES ON CAMERA FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008 at 2:21pm by MetalSucks

For those of you not in the know, our good friends over at Metal Injection do a video podcast called “The Fix.” The podcast should always be of interest to lovers of all things metal, but this week’s edition is extra-extra special for MetalSucks readers, as MS’ own co-dicktators, Axl Rosenberg and Vince Neilstein, guest host the show. This is your first and possibly last chance to see Axl and Vince as you’ve never seen them before, live and on-camera!!!

This was filmed way back in March, so some of it may be a little dated (e.g., references to IWRESTLEDABEARONCE as an “unsigned band”), but it’s still totally killer, and features videos from such MetalSucks favorites Hate Eternal, Anthrax, Sikth and more. You can check it out below or, better head, head over to iTunes and just subscribe to the damn podcast so you can get your fix every damn week!

We hope you enjoy…

YNGWIE WHO?

Monday, June 16th, 2008 at 3:17pm by Axl Rosenberg

Yo, I don’t care what Vince says – fuck Yngwie Malmsteem, he’s a chump and a shitty guitar player. For my money, the best of the best is Thor Shredsteen. That dude can dance all up n’ down the fretboard like nobody’s bidness.

Metal Injection got an exclusive with Thor while he was in some Long Island shit hole studio recording his new album, Not for Nuthin’: Live From Buddakan, those lucky fuckers. Check it out below, and don’t forget to head over to Metal Injection for more bitchin’ videos.

GOD FORBID’S BENEATH THE SCARS OF GLORY AND PROGRESSION IS WORTH THE WAIT

Friday, June 13th, 2008 at 4:12pm by Axl Rosenberg

Holy crap. After what seems like forever, God Forbid finally released their first DVD, Beneath the Scars of Glory and Progression, earlier this week (trailer and clip above).

And you know what?

It was totally worth the wait. Click to read more…

METAL INJECTION ALSO WRESTLEDABEARONCE

Thursday, June 12th, 2008 at 2:15pm by Axl Rosenberg

In all fairness, our platonic hetero life partners over at Metal Injection introduced us to our favorite unsigned band, IWRESTLEDABEARONCE, not the other way around. Hopefully some day we’ll be able to return the favor by discovering some awesome act called IBLEWAGOATTWICE or something like that.

ANYWAY, the MI dudes were also at the awesome IWABO show last week, and they interviewed the band shortly after the gig (they weren’t able to get any performance footage because a certain gigantic corporate promoter that has an illegal monopoly over the concert business wanted an obscene amount of money to let them film). Kind of unusually for an MI interview, everyone in this video appears to be more or less sober (”more or less” being the operative phrase here).

Check out the interview below. And remember, there’s always lots of more super duper sweet vids at Metal Injection.

THE RED CHORD BASSIST GREG WEEKS ANSWERS METALSUCKS’ COMPLETELY RETARDED QUESTIONS

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008 at 2:23pm by MetalSucks

At the beginning of April, just as genre-bending metal masters The Red Chord were kicking off a tour with Converge, Genghis Tron, Baroness and Coliseum, we were given the opportunity to e-mail bassist Greg Weeks some questions. Of course, we jumped at the chance.

And then we never heard back.

At the time, we assumed that Greg had decided our questions were just too stupid to answer (and who could blame the dude?); in fact, there was another culprit at fault for Greg’s delayed response.

After the jump, find out why it took Greg so long to get back to us, and read his thoughts on such incredibly relevant political topics as why no producer will work with the band more than once, touring with Disturbed, and the current state of large beards in metal. For, surely, this interview proves our journalistic integrity.

IS THIS TELEVISION COMMERCIAL FOR DEICIDE THE BEST OR WORST THING EVER?

Thursday, May 15th, 2008 at 12:09pm by Axl Rosenberg

Metal Injection posted the below British television spot for Till Death Do Us Part, Deicide’s latest (read my review here), and while some might think it reps a new low in marketing techniques, I think it’s pretty much the best t.v. ad I’ve ever seen for a metal album (and possibly just the best t.v. ad I’ve ever seen period). I mean, that old dude who says “Yes, I agree, this is their fastest and most brutal album yet?” PRICELESS.

METAL INJECTION REPORTS: MADONNA COVERS PANTERA, “SOME PANTERA FANS ARE NOT PLEASED (OR INTELLIGENT)”

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008 at 12:56pm by Axl Rosenberg

From the “Gee I wish I’d written this” files: Madonna apparently played a snippet of Pantera’s “A New Level” at a recent concert (video above), and some Blabberbrats have their panties in a twist over it. Rob at Metal Injection reports:

“…much like with Fall Out Boy covering Pantera, some Pantera fans are not pleased (or intelligent). Here’s what some loyal Cowboys From Hell are saying over at Blabbermouth:

anybody who thinks this is cool should never ever post a negative post about any of the bands from the 80’s again!the fact that the she is holding a guitar does not make her a rocker and just because it happens to be a pantera riff does not make it a tribute or cool. she belongs in the dance hall of fame not the rock and roll hall. I did not even watch this garbage but more than likely she is lip syching like everything else. the people praising her for this are the same ones who trashed nickelback for making a real dime tribute song and they used his solo on the track.just another pub. stunt by this overrated attention whore.

Actually, the fact that she played the riff does make it a tribute. Thats actually exactly what it was. Why are you commenting on something you didn’t even bother watching? I’ve never trashed Nickelback for making a Dime tribute, I trash them cause they absolutely blow.”

I hate Madonna as much the next guy, but seriously, some of these comments are pretty ridiculous.

Head over to Metal Injection for the rest of their awesome commentary on these events; then weigh in on the righteousness, or lack thereof, of Madonna’s cover below.

AT LONG LAST, METALOCALYPSE WILL DEBUT NEW EPISODES

Monday, May 12th, 2008 at 10:19am by Axl Rosenberg

Well well well, Rob over at Metal Injection made a very interesting discovery over the weekend:

“I was stumbling through the city this weekend, and while in midtown I looked up and saw a ginormous DETHKLOK ad right in the middle of the city. It was so brutal, I had to stop and take a photo and be mistaken for a tourist [Said tourist photo to your right - Ed.]. Then, I turned on [adult swim] earlier and they were advertising that the show returns next Sunday, May 18th! Fuck. Yes!”

These will be the first new episodes of 2008. Think about that: there haven’t been new episodes of Metalocalypse in almost six months. Who the fuck do Tommy Blacha and Brendon Small think they are, the showrunners for fuckin’ Lost or something?

Oh, well. Look at this way: unlike Lost, when Metalocalypse returns, at least there’ll be some payoff.

DOWNLOAD A SHITTY WEB RIP OF MESHUGGAH’S “BLEED”

Monday, January 14th, 2008 at 11:40am by Axl Rosenberg

obzen.jpgSo the first new track off of obZen, the new Meshuggah album that comes out March 7 in Europe and March 11 in the U.S., dropped over the weekend, and there are web-rips of not-so-great quality floating around all over the internet. Even though the sound quality isn’t so hot, they still give you a sense of what the 7 minutes-plus track has to offer: awesomeness in audio form.

You can find the track on any number of sites; I recommend Metal Injection, because, well, I like the dudes over at Metal Injection. So get over there, already.

DETHKLOK: “FATTY DING DONGS LIVES”

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 at 3:33pm by Axl Rosenberg

Our boy Rob over at Metal Injection recently conducted an phone interview with the almighty Dethklok for the Metal Injection Brain Damage podcast. Because I helped Rob out with the questions, and because I have no sense of modesty whatsoever, I’ve included the podcast below for your listening pleasure. Topics include Dr. Rockso the Rock N’ Roll Clown, the band’s upcoming tour, and, of course, the band’s adopted son, Fatty Ding Dongs (not to be confused with Eddie Van Halen’s biological son).

Brain Damage: DETHKLOK Interview Special

Thanks to Rob for getting on the phone with these dudes so I don’t have to. I hate talking to people on the phone. Or in person, for that matter.

Speaking of Dethklok, they finally announced their tour dates with …And You Will Kow Us by the Trail of Dead, the non-metal band with the most metal name of any non-metal band, ever (save for the Starland Vocal Band, of course). Right now, the tour seems to exclusively be hitting universities, and is coming nowhere near NYC, thus settling my debate about whether or not I’d actually go see a live flesh n’ blood incarnation of my favorite cartoon band.

Tour dates after the jump.
