Some miscellaneous news regarding metal’s most divisive sub-genre…
A whole butt load of you have e-mailed us in the past twenty-four hours to alert us to the fact that Suicide Silence’s new album, No Time to Bleed, has leaked.
Now, normally, we don’t acknowledge leaks. In fact, we usually remove any links to leaks you folks post in our comments section. We’re not dumb; we know shit leaks all the time, and we know that if you’re motivated enough and not a complete ree-ree, you will find the leak you’re looking for fairly quickly. You really don’t need our help to steal music.
That being said, we’re gonna make an exception this one time, ’cause, uhhh… well, we found this amongst the various links y’all sent us to download the record, and it’s pretty fucking funny. Download the leak from this link to hear what we’re talking about (You can also give a listen above). You gotta wonder why more bands don’t do shit like this.
For those of you who will do the menschy thing and actually purchase No Time to Bleed the old-fashioned way (and I happen to think the record is worth the coin), the album drops June 30. You can pre-order it (with a t-shirt!) here.

What the fuck is happening in the world of deathcore? Job for a Cowboy’s Genesis didn’t really sound like Doom, All Shall Perish’s Awaken the Dreamers didn’t really sound like The Price of Existence, Suicide Silence’s No Time to Bleed doesn’t really sound like The Cleansing, and all evidence suggests that Born of Osiris’ A Higher Place will not really sound like The New Reign. Whether you love or hate these bands, there’s no denying that they’re evolving at a rapid pace.
And it looks like we can add Arsonists Get All the Girls to the list. The band has a new song, “Saturnine,” currently streaming on their MySpace page, and while it retains a lot of the Sumeriancore elements we love about the group, it’s a pretty far cry from anything off of The Game of Life. And although all the line-up changes since that album’s release probably have something to do with that, I don’t think there can be any doubt that the band has a creative desire to stretch their wings, too.
The official studio recording of the new Suicide Silence track “Wake Up” (which we’d previously heard only as a live bootleg) is now available for streaming – but not through one of the usual webernet outlets you’d expect. Nope, the track can be heard only on the band’s merch site, which is run by the company Third Degree.
I certainly understand the thinking behind that – might as well try to sell some t-shirts while you have everyone’s attention – and I’m not annoyed or angered by the decision, because the listener is under no obligation to buy anything. It’s more like the way you have go through the entire mall to get to the movie theater (I’m speaking from my limited experience in the suburbs, by the way). I do wonder if the band’s merch sales will increase at all as a result.

It’s a big day for free shit: Revolver is currently giving away an mp3 of a new Suicide Silence song, “Lifted.” The track was already streaming on the band’s MySpace page, but, hey, now you can own a copy. For free. Neat-o.

It’s Friday, and it’s nice out. I’ma go have a whiskey. Booze and drugs make you look cool and get lots of pussy… it’s true.
Here’s what happened this week that made us batty enough to turn to the dark side:
See you next week. Don’t get too stoned tomorrow with yer Uncle Kip.

Heavy Metal Source has posted live footage of two new Suicide Silence songs, which the band performed on a recent Music as a Weapon date. The first one, “Creation,” is brand brand new; the second one, “Wake Up,” we’ve actually heard before, if in a fan-captured bootleg that wasn’t nearly so high quality. Both songs will appear on the band’s new album, No Time to Bleed, which Century Media will release on June 30.
I feel like I don’t even have to really write anything. You guys are gonna argue about this band until the end of time, so I’m just gonna stand back and watch.
“Creation”

I friggin’ love it when I’m right: Megadeth will indeed be doing a co-headlining trek with Slayer. And Machine Fucking Head and Sucide Fucking Silence are the support. Holy fried shit sandwich, that’s a great tour.

At some point late yesterday afternoon I smacked myself in the forehead and gave a postively Homerian cry of “D’oh!” as I realized that I had completely forgotten to give a listen to the new Suicide Silence song, “Lifted,” which is currently streaming on the group’s MySpace page.
And that’s why you shouldn’t smoke so much pot, kids.
So. “Lifted.” Alright, let’s talk about this bitch!
Oh boy oh boy. 4/20 is just days away. And for once, I plan to put aside my Jewish guilt and forget that it’s Hitler’s birthday and the anniversary of Columbine, and concentrate on the fact that it is, of course, a day to toke the ganj. As though we needed an excuse.
Suicide Silence are also excited about 4/20: according to the below teaser for their new album, No Time to Bleed, they’ll release a new song, the appropriately titled “Lifted,” on 4/20. So I guess we know what the Monday Song to Get Stoned To will be!
No Time to Bleed comes out June 30 on Century.

MetalSucks Maniac Gaston Ayala sent us the below clip of Suicide Silence performing a new song, “Wake Up,” this past Friday night (March 27) at the Marquee in Phoenix, where they were opening up for Carcass. It’s obviously not a high quality clip, but as far as I can tell, it pretty much sounds like Suicide Silence – depending on your viewpoint, that might be a good thing or a bad thing.
The song comes off the band’s new album, No Time to Bleed, which will be out later this year on Century. You can check out another lo-fi clip of a new song, “Vile Creation,” here.

So many of you have e-mailed us this week to instruct us to post news about the fact that Opeth and Enslaved are touring together that I’m fairly certain posting news about the fact that Opeth and Enslaved are touring together is a complete waste of time; I mean, clearly, everyone and their mother is already aware of this tour.
I’m not saying this isn’t an awesome package – clearly, it is – I’m just saying, you’ve all sent us the news and the tour dates, so what can we tell you that you don’t already know? How about this: we will be at the show at the Starland Ballroom in NJ, and we will be high. Actually, you probably knew that already, too.
I’m putting tour dates after the jump, although I don’t for the life of me know why.

So apprently Slayer are gonna announce their co-headlining tour mates this coming Monday, January 26. Of course, this raises the question: who will said co-headliners be?
Live music videos are hit or miss; either they capture the live spirit and energy of the band in all their glory or they come off as cheap, completely sucking the life out of potentially great bands. This week we’ve got three brand new live music vids that run said gamut.
File The Haunted’s new one for “Moronic Colossus” — the first single from their recently released record Versus (read David Bee Roth’s review) — as a big fat win. That The Haunted chose to stick with the live audio rather than laying the studio track on top of live video like most bands do is a testament to how virgin-tight and crushing this band is in the live setting. Big ups!
On the other side of the spectrum we’ve got a live video for “Pray” by King’s X, a good song — and an excellent live band — whose video is a total snoozefest guilty of precisely the pratfalls The Haunted avoided with theirs. Oh well. I still love this band and will go see them pretty much any time they roll through NYC.
Squarely in the middle we’ve got a new one from Suicide Silence which does a stellar job of being completely “meh.” This whole band is meh. I know Axl likes ‘em, but I just don’t see it; what I see is a scenecore/deathcore band who admits to liking Korn. I guess the video does a good job of making these guys look awesome live (footage from this past summer’s Rockstar Mayhem run), but to thee I say: studio audio! Fail.
I suppose you’d actually like to WATCH these videos rather than read my boring analysis of them, eh? Click on through to the other side.
MetalSucks Maniac Razze just sent us this lo-fi clip of Suicide Silence performing a new song, which may or may not actually be titled “Vile Creation.” Suicide Silence have become one of those bands that are wildly successful and yet divide audiences everywhere. Only time will tell if their next album does anything to (suicide) silence the naysayers…

Metal Injection just posted this video interivew with Guy Kozowyk from The Red Chord. Vince and I were standing just off-camera, obnoxiously watching the interview take place when we probably should have been minding our own business, and at the time, I thought it was one of the funniest, most honest interviews I’d seen recently; I’m glad to have now discovered that it holds up even if you’re not in the room. Guy is not only insanely entertaining, but he’s brutally honest in a way a lot metal musicians would never be – to wit, see his thoughts on Suicide Silence and deathcore in general. Even if you don’t agree with him, you gotta admit, this is some funny shit.
Also, clearly “The Panteradactyl” should be the hot new dance move in the mosh pit.
By the way, in case you’re somehow not in the know, Metal Injection has loads more cool interviews and live footage and lotsa other shit. Go visit them. It’s what all the cool kids are doing.

I recently ran into a guy with whom I used to hang in High School back in the Eighties. We were both really into Metal and as the decade progressed our tastes kept leaning heavier. He got me into a little-known band that actually recorded under the name “Death” (“Dude! The album’s called “Scream Bloody Gore” – you’re going to LOVE this!) and I introduced him to a new act called Obituary that I believed would never be bested as far as heaviness and brutality were concerned (two decades later I still cling to that observation).
It was a mostly Metallica week here at the MS Mansion, but it turns out that some other stuff happened too. In summary:
Also, we wrote a whole lot of other shit about Metallica or something. Next week we’ll be back to our usual shenanigans. Enjoy your weekend!
We first met Suicide Silence nearly a year ago, on the set of their David Brodsky-directed video for “Bludgeoned to Death.” Unfortunately, we didn’t get to interview any members of the band at that time, so we were stoked to get to sit down with Suicide Silence bassist Mike Bodkins at the Rockstar Mayhem Festival’s stop at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. Bodkins had some interesting things to say about the band’s first big summer festival tour, partying on the road, the dreaded “deathcore” tag, and the progress of the band’s new album. Full transcript after the jump.
A very, very, VERY special thanks to Rosa Henriquez for the awesome photos. Now we’re that much closer to being like a real big kids’ website!
I think one of the things Slipknot’s fans love most about them is one of the very same qualities that their detractors so violently hold against them: their theatricality. I mean, these are nine dudes who dress up in matching outfits and wear “spooky” masks. The band’s members talk about death metal an awful lot, and, musically speaking, that influence is certainly present. But aesthetically, they belong to a line of bands like Kiss and Motley Crue. They’re showmen.
