Grim Reaper’s Steve Grimmett Remains Hospitalized Following Emergency Amputation; Fundraising Campaign Launched
As you may recall, last week Steve Grimmett, vocalist for the legendary NWOBHM band Grim Reaper, was rushed to a hospital in Guayaquil, Ecudaor, where he was in the middle of a tour. Doctors diagnosed Grimmett with an “aggressive infection” and were forced to amputate his right leg below the knee.
Fortunately, Grimmett is still alive; unfortunately, he remains hospitalized in Ecuador “after being refused flight home when the airline disallowed him to board on Saturday evening,” according to a new press release. Specific details as to why the airline wouldn’t allow Grimmett to board aren’t given… I don’t know if there was a legitimate issue with his passport or he just looked too-much like a dude who just had his leg amputated as the result of an aggressive infection or what. But the press release goes on to say that Grimmett is expected to be able to return home to England this Friday, January 27. “The embassy has promised they will look after him and get him back to the UK safely,” according to Steve’s wife, Amelia.
In the meantime, the Grimmetts have launched an official fundraising page to help cover the cost of Steve’s medical care. You can donate here.
