Here’s Greta Van Fleet’s New Song “Watching Over”

Here’s Greta Van Fleet’s New Song “Watching Over”Let the debate rage on: is Greta Van Fleet’s recent meteoric success for real, or are people just temporarily entranced by the Robert Plant / Led Zeppelin similarities?

With their first full-length album FINALLY slated for release this fall (following two EPs) there will be plenty of opportunities to argue about that. For now we get “Watching Over,” the first single from that album — Anthem Of The Peaceful Army, due October 19th via Republic/Lava Records (pre-order here) — and while it’s certainly not going to do anything to quell the Zeppelin comparisons, there’s no doubt it’s a helluva song. It’s catchy, it’s got riffs, and duh, the vocals are incredible.

I want to be clear: I’m not knocking the band. I think they’re very talented. I just wonder whether an act with such a singular, retro focus can have sustained success at a high level. I’d point to bands such as The Darkness, Airbourne and The Answer as examples of similarly retro-themed rock acts that came onto the scene extremely hyped and eventually fell back to earth.

Anyhoo, listen to “Watching Over” below and see what you think. Like I said, it’s rull good!
