14-Year-Old Drummer Maren Alford Invited to Hang Out with Slipknot’s Jay Weinberg

You may remember all the way back to two entire weeks ago when we shared a video by Maren Alford, a 14-year-old drummer who did a bang-up job covering Slipknot’s “Unsainted.”

Word travels fast in the internet age, and it wasn’t long before the man who performed those parts on record — Jay Weinberg — got wind of the cover. So Jay did what any generous, humble rock star should do: he invited Maren to the Slipknot gig closest to her hometown (Dallas) for a hang sesh and even a mini-jam!

Maren posed for some photos with Weinberg, sat at his drum kit, and gushed about the experience on Facebook, saying:

“Best day EVER hanging out with Jay Weinberg before KNOTFEST in Dallas! Not only is he a beast behind the kit, but he’s also the most encouraging, kind and generous guy! Really a dream come true to meet and spend time with him and the Slipknot show was INCREDIBLE! THANK YOU for everything Jay – you’re the BEST! So much love for my SJC Custom Drums family!”

Weinberg, of course, understands what it’s like to be a young fan in awe of your heroes; he recently recreated a photo he took with Slipknot when he was just a wee lad, way before he joined the band.

Here’s to hoping this is one of the first of many times you end up hearing about Alford on this site and others.
