Morbid Angel’s Trey Azagthoth Arrested for DUI, Tells Cops “I’m a Professional Drinker”

Fun fact: Trey Azagthoth’s real name is George Emmanuel. I know. Kinda boring. It’s like Slash, who’s real name is Saul Hudson, or Nikki Sixx, whose real name is Frank Feranna… like, of course he uses a stage name.

Why am I talking about this? Because The Smoking Gun reported on Azagthoth’s DUI arrested just days after it happened on January 1 of this year… but no one in the metal community seems to have picked up on the report, likely because it identified the Morbid Angel guitarist by his legal name, not his stage name.

But people are picking up on it now! Azagthoth, who turned 55 in March, was pulled over for speeding in a 35 mph zone. Apparently, he was visibly drunk, with “watery and glassy” eyes and a “wobbly” stance. After failing sobriety tests, Florida police administered a two breathalyzer exams, and discovered that his blood alcohol level was either .218 or .211. Either way, that’s significantly over the legal limit, which is .08. Azagthoth was read his rights, after which he “admitted to consuming 1-2 shots of whiskey prior to driving.”

But here’s the kicker. Ready? The guitarist reportedly told the cops, “I’m a professional drinker.” Who knew Trey was so witty?

(P.S., please do not drive drunk, even if you are able to engage in droll repartee with 5-0. It’s really dangerous and you could hurt someone other than yourself, which would be a serious dick move.)

Azagthoth was arrested on a misdemeanor DUI charge and released the following day on his own recognizance. No word on what penalty he faced/ faces, but you can check out the arrest affidavit below.
