John Bush (Armored Saint, ex-Anthrax) Explains Why He Doesn’t Use Social Media
Armored Saint vocalist John Bush (also ex-Anthrax) was our guest on a recent episode of The MetalSucks Podcast to discuss the band’s forthcoming new album, Punching the Sky, and a number of other topics.
Bush spoke a bit about why he stays off social media despite knowing it’d be beneficial for the band, saying:
“I don’t have any social media, I’m probably one of the rarer musicians who doesn’t. I get some grief from people like, ‘Dude, you’re not even helping your own cause.’ And I have to apologize to the band saying, ‘Look, I know that I could probably benefit the band by doing this but I’m just choosing not to because I just really value privacy.
“I have enough hard times talking to the people and seeing the people I want to, let alone reacquainting or getting together with some person online who I had a relationship with in the third grade. It’s like, ‘Look man, we parted ways and that’s just the way it was meant to go. I’d love to talk to you for maybe a minute but we’re not really close anymore and I’m not looking to reacquaint that relationship.’ No disrespect. But you know, it’s just the way I want to live.
“But I kind of hope that eventually they find a way to do it and work it out where it’s not so consuming. Because just walking down the street is nice sometimes. Dude you’ll see people pushing kids in strollers who are two years old, looking at a phone. They’re like two! And I’m like, ‘Listen man, when you’re two years old everything is like an acid trip, OK? All you got to do is look at the trees and you feel like you’re blazing on LSD because it’s all stimulating. You don’t need a phone!’ [laughs] C’mon, man!”
