Take a Stroll Down Memory Lane with This Wayne’s World Reunion Panel

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — a.k.a. “AMPAS,” a.k.a. “The People Who Give Out the Oscars” — recently held a special screening of Wayne’s World, complete with a Q&A featuring star/co-writer Mike Myers, co-star Dana Carvey, director Penelope Spheeris (also of The Decline of Western Civilization fame), and producer Lorne Michaels. (Other cast members, including Lara Flynn Boyle, Brian Doyle Murray, and Colleen Camp were also in attendance, although not asked to participate in the discussion for whatever reason.) Apparently the screening of the very-much-not-an-Oscar-winning-film was part of a campaign to attract a younger, hipper audience to The Academy, and it worked like gangbusters, selling out in ninety seconds, reports Deadline. Now Metal Injection has posted this nine-minute highlight reel from the event, and it’s a must-watch for any Wayne’s World devotee… which, let’s be real, every metal fan in his or her right mind is. Enjoy:

Some gossip to go with this: apparently it was also a make-nice moment for Myers and Carvey, who allegedly fell out years ago after Carvey accused Myers of stealing the Dr. Evil voice for the Austin Powers flicks. That being the case, my immediate thought was “Here comes Wayne’s World 3!” — because neither Myers nor Carvey are exactly riding career highs right now, and we live in a world where longdormant franchises are routinely revived in the name of the almighty dollar. Mercifully, as of this writing, only one person is discussing bringing back Wayne and Garth:

Sad trombone.
