We Wish This Slipknot/Ricky Martin Mash-Up Were A Real Thing
During our passionate argument on the podcast (read: I yelled a bunch), Sergeant D and I talked about pop music, and the Sarge expressed his feeling that metal bands were almost always best when they were covering pop songs (that’s a simplification of his point, go listen to the podcast).
And while I don’t agree with that overall, I cannot help but watch the below Slipknot/Ricky Martin mash-up and wish, deeply, that Slipknot would cover “Livin’ La Vida Loca.” Not only do I think they could do something huge and evil with that big sing-along chorus, but those more I watch the video, the more I hear how similar Martin and Corey Taylor’s voices are at times. More so, the over-the-top multi-percussionist sound of Slipknot could do well by the total overkill of this Latin pop song.
I doubt Martin could do the full Slipknot bellow, but I think Taylor could pull off a much more menacing, dark singing voice. Plus, don’t you want to hear Clown doing back-up chants of “UP-SIDE IN-SIDE OOOUT!” No? C’mooon, it’d be great. I bet the fans at Knotfest Mexico would love the shout-out to Latin music (or they might lynch Slipknot within seconds, who knows).
Watch the video below and let me know if I’m on the money or full of shit.
