Filter’s Richard Patrick is Scoring the New Jim Carrey Movie

Following in the footsteps of his old boss, Trent Reznor, Filter’s Richard Patrick is now using his talents to compose a film score. According to The PRP, Patrick will provide the music for True Crimes, an upcoming dramatic thriller starring Jim Carrey and Jim Carrey’s gnarly beard (above).

Based on this 2008 New Yorker article by David Grann and directed by Alexandros Avranas, True Crimes follows a murder investigation that “turns to clues found in an author’s book about an eerily similar crime” (the original New Yorker piece describes it as “a postmodern murder mystery”). I’m not familiar with any of Avranas’ previous work and it’s been a minute since Carrey was in anything in decent, but that plot sounds potentially interesting, and certainly appropriate for Patrick’s aural aesthetic. Also, Charlotte Gainsbourg (daughter of Serge Gainsbourg) is in it, and she’s awesome. So maybe this will be good?

True Crimes is tentatively scheduled for release later this year. While you wait for it, why not check out our recent podcast interview with Patrick himself?
