Insane Clown Posse Plot Million Juggalo March on Washington for 2017
From a political standpoint, 2016 is probably as turbulent a year as America — and the world — has ever faced. There have been terrorist attacks and mass murders and police brutality and subsequently brutality against the police… it’s basically just been one horrible conflict after another as the struggle for equal human rights across the world continues, be it for minorities, refugees, immigrants, or the LGBT community.
Oh, right. Also: juggalos.
Metal Injection reports that Rolling Stone reports that The Detroit News reports that during this past weekend’s annual Gathering of the Juggalos, Insane Clown Posse announced plans to stage a ‘Million Juggalo March’ next year in Washington, D.C.:
“[The march] will begin at the Lincoln Memorial, proceed down Constitution Ave. and will end at the Washington Monument, where artists and fans will speak about what it means to be a Juggalo.
“‘We are going to explain to the world who the [expletive] we really are,’ [ICP’s Violent J] said.”
On the other hand, I can’t help but feel that such a rally will give a lot of assholes an excuse to dismiss the plight of groups that face persecution on a far more extreme level. To date, no nutso religious fanatic has walked into an ICP concert and started murdering people just because of the music they love; there aren’t any recorded cases of a juggalo being pulled over and shot by the cops for no reason. Rallying for clown rights at this point feels like ICP are, at worst, belittling people who face far harsher forms of oppression, or, at best, politically tone deaf.
On the other other hand, the Million Juggalos March won’t take place ’til September 16, 2017, by which point America may very well have installed Supreme Leader Trump. If that’s the case, I suspect this will be a moot point, as free speech will either be outlawed, or shooting protesters en masse will become SOP. So there’s that to look forward to.
