Corey Taylor Gets Emotional Discussing Mental Health: “It is Going to be Okay…It is All Temporary”

A recent event featuring Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor left the singer getting a bit misty-eyed, as he shared some of his struggles with mental health and promising that no matter what, he’d “always be here” for his fans.

The moment happened during a Q&A moderated by We Wear Black on Wednesday host Sophie K, in which fans submitted questions to Taylor on August 7 at the Pryzm nightclub in Kingston. At one point, the discussion turned to mental health and with his voice audibly shaking as he spoke, Taylor opened up about his struggles.

“I want you to know something. For the longest time, I didn’t have a lot of reasons in my heart to live, but as my life has gone on, and you guys have been there for me, you have no idea… I promise you this. I promise you this, as long as you are here, I will always be here for you.”

Certainly, the loss of Joey Jordison. Paul Gray, and others over the years had to weigh on his mind, along with whatever other issues he’s had to deal with in his personal life, so it’s understandable that he’d feel that way.

Yet if you’ve heard any of his recent interviews, Taylor seems like he’s in a great place these days. He regularly talks about his kids, the happiness he finds with his wife, and the fulfillment he apparently feels in the work he’s putting out lately. So we’re glad to hear he’s on a better path.

Later on in the discussion, Taylor said he’d tell his younger self that despite how bad things get, they won’t be that way forever.

“Honestly, I would tell… and this is true, I would tell my 18-year-old self that it’s going to be okay, because no one ever fucking told me that. And anyone who needs to hear that, right now, listen to me. It is going to be okay, no matter what is going on, it is all temporary. And you can get through it because you’re fucking stronger than you god damn think.”
