Year of the Knife Have First Practice Since Accident

The ongoing saga of Delaware straight-edge hardcore crew Year of the Knife’s horrific auto accident and subsequent recovery continues. To recap, last June the band was in a car accident in Salt Lake City, Utah while touring when their tour bus collided with an 18-wheeler truck. Most of the members suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but vocalist Madi Watkins suffered the worst of it, remaining in critical condition immediately following the crash.

Madi Watkins bandmate and husband Brandon Watkins kept fans updated of his wife’s progress, and according to him Madi spent three months in a hospital before being discharged last September. In November, it was reported that Madi was back to work attending a rehearsal for Year of the Knife side project Damnations Domain where she plays bass and Brandon handles vocals. “The bitch is back!” declared Brandon triumphantly on Twitter.

On Friday, Brandon tweeted that Year of the Knife were having their first band practice since the accident, after which he tweeted that the practice was a “Huge success,” which was great news for everyone to hear. According to both Brandon and Madi’s tweets, the couple also celebrated the 16th anniversary of their first date on the same day as their rehearsal. You probably didn’t think it was possible for a story about a hardcore band to make you cry today, but you were wrong!

The GoFundMe that was set up for the band’s recovery is still going, as the simple fact that Madi was able to practice again doesn’t necessarily mean her recovery is over. The band also put out their latest album No Love Lost in October, with all profits from that album going towards the band members’ ongoing recovery. No jokes this time, we’re just happy to see the band back to doing what they love.
